Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most visited tourist destinations in Sri Lanka. Sigiriya is also known as the Lion Rock due to the lion-shaped structure at the entrance of the fortress. The site is believed to have been built by King Kashyapa in the 5th century AD as a palace complex and later used as a Buddhist monastery. The complex features well-preserved frescoes, landscaped gardens, and an impressive water management system. Climbing to the top of Sigiriya offers panoramic views of the surrounding area and is a must-visit for history and nature enthusiasts.

It is a massive rock formation that rises up to 200 meters and contains the remains of an ancient palace and fortress. Climbing to the top of the fortress requires a bit of effort, but it is well worth it for the stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Dambulla Golden Rock Temple

The Dambulla Golden Rock Temple, also known as the Dambulla Cave Temple, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the central part of Sri Lanka. It is a complex of five caves with over 150 Buddha statues and murals, dating back to the 1st century BC. The largest cave, known as the Maharaja Viharaya or Cave of the Great Kings, measures about 50 meters long, 7 meters high and 23 meters deep, and houses a 14-meter-long reclining Buddha statue. The other four caves, also known as Devaraja Viharaya, Vajira Viharaya, Maha Alut Viharaya and Paccima Viharaya, contain numerous other Buddha statues and murals depicting scenes from the life of Buddha. Visitors to the temple are required to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the caves. The temple is open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm daily, and admission fees apply.
